The hashirieri /hæʃˈɪɹɪiɛɹɪ/ is an elongated stranger with a sludgy-to-gritty, permeable structure. It has no set color, though the configuration of its markings do not change between individuals. Each of the hashirieri's eight colored sections is composed of a different mixture of chemicals, the possibilities of which number above at least one hundred. Though they drip continuously, these chemicals replenish at a corresponding rate, and do not mix into one another. Though beads of fluid are heavy when they slop upon the earth, the hashirieri does not display difficulty holding up its long-necked body.
Nearly all of the chemicals within the hashirieri cause aggravation to the skin, and mild to severe illness if consumed.

The hashirieri's metallic teeth are the only substance that remains consistent between individuals, and can be pulled out with little force, and without regrowth. Though fluid, the hashirieri's thick body resists much blunt assault, and almost all sharp impacts. It is additionally immune to flame, and can consistently be destroyed only with continued strong force,丿 or a high-powered fire hose.

Its voice does not present as strongly gendered.
The hashirieri appears in perfectly cubic rooms. It seems additionally predisposed towards chambers with rectangular pools of water (particularly those connected to a sewer drainage system୬), as well as uneven floors (with curved slopes being a favorite). It generates in windowed rooms only when these apertures contain opaque planes, are boarded up, or have dimensions too small for any average adult human to fit through. The hashirieri does not tend to appear around a greater than minimal quantity of bleach.

Though always generating in physical isolation, groups tend to generate at once within a city, and never within sight of a sensitive. It rises upwards from the earth segment-by-segment, starting at the tip of the tail, and with the eye markings generating last.
The hashirieri's disposition is initially hurried. During its first three days of life, its already-long neck grows further (reaching a maximum length of thirty-four feet. Its head weaves forward through the space of the room, and even doubles back through its body when necessary (a posture which causes it no loss in the stranger's stability). Because of its glutinous form, the hashirieri can grow through mesh and grates, though it intersects larger solid objects (such iron bars or vent covers) only very rarely. It adjusts its hands and tail with twitching trepidation during this stage of adjustment.
The hashirieri's longevity varies based upon its pose, with each hashirieri possessing a different ideal position.Ꭹ A great many individuals, however, take on poses which allows them less than one week of life, this time spent locked in place, stammering, with the eyes in constant motion.𐐂 Hashirieri unable to achieve a sustainable position after three days break apart into chunks which first melt, then dry into powdery beads.

Once successfully settled into place, the hashirieri becomes apathetic. Its eye markings shift only periodically towards stimulus (such as a pebble falling from a crumbling windowsill), and its reaction time is slow. It can open and close its mouth, or raise one limb at a time; otherwise, beyond an additional slight waving of the neck, the hashirieri is restricted in its motions. Each undulation is accompanied by a grisly squelch and a dripping of its outer layers. Material exuded by the hashirieri does not disappear readily, and seeps ever-downward and into smaller and smaller crevices, diffusing within the environment fully over a long enough timespan.

Over a long enough period of time, an ideally-placed hashirieri emits bursts across varying wavelengths. These bursts affect powered-on electronics within the hashirieri's chamber, any speaker will broadcast a sound recognizable (though barely) as a human voice, while screens will display brief flashes of four-letter words,𐊥 whose typeface, color, and background vary. Within a city, words appear limited to one language (the most widely spoken one in 84% of instances). These bursts last no longer than a second or two, and can also be observed (albeit with lower fidelity) within rooms connected to a hashirieri-infested chamber via a shared water system.

The hashirieri's head turns involuntarily to follow any sensitive within its visual range, with the strain becoming vocal in tandem with this event. Though possessing a complex language, the hashirieri's voice is feeble, and its statements drawling, as though drugged. As it speaks, it exudes small droplets of fluid from its lips.
Careful touch from a kind-hearted sensitive causes the strain to let out a weak, contented sigh. If attacked, the hashirieri raises its left hand and closes its mouth, but does not otherwise resist. Its only defense is its ability to cast off excess chemicals not into its inanimate surroundings, but instead within the sensitive's left eardrum, left tear duct, or (in 2% of instances) within the pineal gland.

As the hashirieri ages, it becomes less stable, and less able to regulate its chemical balance. The divisions between its segments become less distinct, and its stripes either blur, or spread out in boiling ripples across its surface.
At the very end of its life, the hashirieri's body softens, bubbles, and pools without regeneration. The stranger does display awareness of this degradation, and, once it has lost over 15% of its earlier mass, engages in a "paradoxical sustain" by sweeping forward nearby dirt and other debris, and pressing it into its flesh. Though this may at first stave off some softening, it ultimately decreases stability at a marked rate. Once this behaviour begins, death tends to occur within the half-hour.
The hashirieri dies suddenly, its body slopping in full upon the ground, and its chemicals pooling together, then draining into its environment, leaving no record of the strain's existence save for a greasiness upon the floor.
