physical appearance
The infidroni /ˈɪnfɪdroʊni/ is an embryonic stranger that floats in viscid fluid within an enclosed chamber. Its skin is so soft and delicate that it can be torn with a jagged fingernail, while its diaphanous flesh is translucent enough to allow its markings to be seen underneath its "eyelids". Most infidroni possess small buds in lieu of arms, with only 34% of individuals presenting with one pair of rudimentary "hands" closest to its head.
You can shine a flashlight through its body, if it's not too big.
The stranger is unable to survive exposure to oxygen, and requires submersion. Its healing ability appears negligible, with any small scrapes causing a gradual and exponential softening of the nearby skin.
It possesses no language of its own, and struggles to imitate human speech.
Bababababbl, blabba. Foofodoo dooda baba.
environment and generation
The infidroni appears in hollow but airtight cavitiesӘ of over five cubic inches in size. It is most often found inside stone walls, beneath cement floors, or in caves deep beneath certain cities, but also occasionally appears in empty septic tanks, unused water heaters, and cracks behind the walls of enclosed pools. There, the infidroni grows from a tiny, cell-like form, which exudes copious amounts of thick, semiopaque fluid as a by-product of its growth. As this fluid, which ranges from clear to deep carmine, fills the infidroni's chamber and allows the stranger to grow in placid contentment.

a an empty space for a missing brick, hidden in the school's north wall.
b an oil barrel buried under ground, contents drained into the soil.
c a sub-basement storage room, sealed up and forgotten when the mansion was razed to build new condominiums.
With no clearly defined mature form, the juvenile instead grows to match the space in which it dwells, and continues to grow should the space expand. The empty inner spaces between the bricks and cement slabs of buildings house infidroni small enough to fit in the palm of one's hand, while generously-sized, forgotten industrial tanks deep underground contain car-sized (or larger) individuals.
The infidroni's initial, cellular form splits into twins half of the time.
They don't get as big as they would otherwise, but they don't seem to mind it so much.
vulnerability
The infidroni is unable to survive when removed from its chamber. Cracks in the walls of this chamber can allow the fluid to empty out, while large enough breaks spill the infidroni, as well.
It lays on the earth, like the yolk of a cracked egg.
Once exposed to open air, the infidroni dies after several minutes, and dissolves into thick, corrosive, and toxic black sludge.
behaviour
The infidroni possess a tender and unspoiled temperament. It spends its life floating in its chamber, seeming to observe the world around it in its own, distanced way. It stranger babbles to itself during periods of silence, in a voice that is soft, high-pitched, and child-like. Sound – especially human conversation – causes the stranger to grow more active, and vibrations in the walls entice a squirming and repositioning response.
Pairs of infidroni display no particularly social or anti-social behaviours, aside from the occasional bumping of sides or interlocking of arms as they float in tandem, or apart.

interactions with sensitives and duplication of organs
Although unable to directly interact with sensitives, the infidroni burbles in pleasure𐐏 at their presence, and pushes against the walls of its chamber.
𐐏 It turns itself over, and over. Like it's fawning for an audience.
For the length of the encounter, the infidroni generates duplicates of the sensitive's organs inside of its own body. On a cellular level, these organs are such exact duplicates that they could be transplanted into the sensitive with no risk of rejection. Unlike the original organs, however, the infidroni's duplicate organs always appear white or clear in coloration to the sensitive – and their arrangement and number do not mimic human systems. Several livers may grow together to form a circular formation, while the outer lining of the long intestine may connect directly to the membrane that surrounds the lungs.
The infidroni never duplicates bone, muscle tissue, or organs above the neck.
Saving space for the tragic bystanders?
...except, it's not really so tragic.
doesn't it save more space for you?
The infidroni requires around one hour of continuous exposure to a sensitive to grow these duplicate organs to maturity. When organs are unable to grow to maturity, they dissolve and are re-absorbed into the infidroni's body. Otherwise, they remain inside the infidroni's body for the remainder of its life. An infidroni does have a limit in terms of how many organs its body can support, and once its body is approximately one-third filled, it will not generate further duplicates.
Although it cries and whimpers when physically assaulted, it does not resist. It possesses no defense mechanisms, and if pulled from its chamber, cannot move. Though it continues to exude gel-like fluid in a useless attempt to protect itself, it perishes on its own within several silent, gasping breaths.
Drowning in reverse.
imitations of animal sounds
The infidroni shows some paradoxical curiosity towards animals. Their presence causes it to grow stupefied and silent, though it mimics their cries afterwards.
"Woof woof", "meow meow", but they're not coming anymore, are they?
And, it'll still be just as shy the second time.
will its eyes ever open?

▟▗ Zeroworld's warnings come too little, too late. Although the entry for the infidroni foreshadows the senator-messiahs that send the world of VHZ careening into the post-collapse fable of Dead Cities, any significance falls on deaf ears.
aging and death
As it nears the end of its life, the infidroni begins to shrink in size in a process mimicking a reversal of its own formation. It displays no malaise or sadness towards this change, and instead, floats in place with its arms curled tight as it becomes smaller and less developed, until it disappears altogether. The surrounding fluid evaporates within several hours, and leaves nothing behind beyond a faint (but not unpleasant) odor of salt and baking soda.
